Shift Workers, Nurses & First Responders

Self-defence for Shift-workers, Nurses and First Responders

We recognize the vital importance of nurses, doctors, paramedics, firefighters, and law enforcement officers within our society.

It is unacceptable that they should face the risk of physical assault, threats, or verbal abuse. Regrettably, they often encounter volatile situations involving the public, patients, and family members.

We strive to empower you with the confidence to protect yourselves, avoid physical altercations, and ensure your safety while performing your duties.

Is self-defence training truly necessary? Unfortunately, the answer is yes. A member of our family, an ICU nurse, has personally experienced physical assault, verbal abuse, and threats. Media reports of violence against frontline healthcare workers and law enforcement officers serve as a poignant reminder of the risks you face.

The increasing stresses of daily life, coupled with rising substance abuse and aggressive behavior, underscore the need for measures to ensure your safety.

Our programme offers the following benefits:

  • self-defence techniques,
  • instruction on escaping physical restraint,
  • skill-building,
  • enhanced confidence, and
  • effective countermeasures against attackers

Self-defense is about being mentally and physically prepared to make safe decisions quickly in stressful situations.

In Australia, a person is not criminally responsible for an offense if they act in self-defense. To claim self-defense, the person must meet the following criteria:

  • The threat of harm must be immediate

  • The person must have a reasonable fear of harm or death

The response must be proportionate to the aggression
